  65.     The <span class="guimenuitem">Clear</span> command deletes everything
  66.     in the current selection. If there is no current selection,
  67.     the contents of the active layer are removed. If the active
  68.     layer has an alpha channel, the deleted selection is made
  69.     transparent. You can restore the original color to the transparent
  70.     area using the Eraser tool, by setting it to Anti-Erase. If the
  71.     layer does not have an alpha channel, the deleted area is
  72.     filled using the current background color.
